Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). It is a flagship housing scheme launched by the Government of India in 2015 to provide affordable housing to the urban poor, including economically weaker sections (EWS), low-income groups (LIG), and middle-income groups (MIG).
Key Features:
- Objective: Achieve “Housing for All” by 2022, extending until Dec. 2025.

The Mission covers the entire urban area consisting of Statutory Towns, Notified Planning Areas, Development Authorities, Special Area Development Authorities, Industrial Development Authorities or any other authority under State legislation which is entrusted with the functions of urban planning & regulations. Beneficiary will get benefit from one of above four component.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U 2.0)
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) has been upgraded to PMAY-U 2.0, aiming to provide affordable housing to urban poor and middle-class families across India. The scheme is effective from 1 September 2024 and targets the construction of 1 crore new houses over the next five years.
PMAY-U 2.0 emphasizes convergence with major Government of India initiatives such as the Smart Cities Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban),AMRUT 2.0, and other urban development programs to ensure holistic and sustainable urban growth.
Online applications for PMAY-U 2.0 are now open. Eligible beneficiaries may apply through the official PMAY-U portal or contact their respective Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) or authorized Common Service Centers (CSCs).
Housing for All Mission (Urban)
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, has launched PMAY-U 2.0 for a period of five years (from 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2029). The mission aims to fulfill the affordable housing needs of 1 crore urban poor and middle-class families
